IC INFORMATION;
Characters Name: Riko Aida.
Age: 17.
Canon: Kuroko no Basuke.
Canon Point: episode 44, after winning the match against touou in the winter cup and going to kagami's place for food.
Species: Human.
Gender: Female.
Orientation: Basketball. No, seriously. She's way too dedicated to her work. BUT NAH, I JEST - She's never shown any indication that she's anything but heterosexual, based on relationships she has with the two closest members of the team to her (Hyuuga Junpei in particular) and her tendencies to get kind of jealous when the boys on her team fawn over Satsuki. But I'm not even joking about her being basukesekushiwaul. She's super focused on the game and her team, and that basically doesn't really allow much time for anything else. (There are moments between she and Hyuuga, though. MOMENTS.)

History: + basuke.wiki
Appearance: you've been warned... ;; she's 5'1" with a tiny tiny chest (which she's self-conscious about because of satsuki momoi's HUGE chest) and short cute hair she keeps out of her face with two barrettes, and an unfairly cute face!!
Personality:
Riko, having been raised by a personal trainer, grew up around athletes, constantly training. The drive she has now has a lot to do with that upbringing, and that is perhaps her most defining characteristic: drive, and determination. She is a motivated person, hard-working to the core, and absolutely refuses to give up. On anything, or anyone. Even when things look their most hopeless, she doesn't allow her team to bog themselves down with pessimistic or defeatist attitudes. Though sometimes her love is the tough kind of love, and though it may seem like she's a little intense with the whip-cracking, she always makes sure to drag her team back up by the scruff of their necks, set them back on their feet, and get them back into the shape they need to be in - both physically and mentally - to feel like NEVER! GIVING!! UP!!! She can actually be pretty brutal when it comes to throwing her team head first into the churning shark tank of competitive high school basketball; she will settle for no less than each member's best, and her training schedules are rigorous and difficult - but she does them that way for a reason. She always makes sure to give her team the rest they need when they need it, but she knows when that is - she makes it her business to know their breaking points so she can push them as far as their bodies will allow, for their own betterment.

Speaking of pushing as far as bodies will allow - Riko's dedication doesn't just stop after she leaves the side of the court. Her father often finds her awake late into the night going over charts and strategies and plays for her team, and reminds her to rest - to which she responds that she can rest later. She puts her team and their success above even her own sleeping schedule. She knows her limits and she knows when she's reached them, just as well as she knows her team's, and she refuses to ever back down a moment too soon.

Occasionally, while her intentions are always good and she generally gets the outcomes that a.) she's looking for and b.) are best for her team, she can be a bit... overbearing. She cooks meals for her team, but she overloads them with protein powder and vitamin supplements because she's trying to make them better and make sure they get the nutrients they need to excel in their sport, but it actually winds up making them sick. She also uses extra training as a form of punishment from time to time; whether it's a personal slight against her or a failure to comply with something else, Riko isn't shy about using her weight as coach to get the players to work their asses into the ground until they get the message.

This dedication doesn't always come in the form of ferocity and painful training regimens, though. She's hard on her boys, yes, but she always encourages their strengths in ways that always push them to become better. Better players individually, better teammates, better as a whole - if there is room for improvement, Riko will push them to that. And she will always be the first to congratulate them for a job well done. She is overwhelmingly proud of them and she loves all of them dearly. While she may seem harsh, she really does put them first, and they're a huge source of inspiration to her as a person. Sometimes she's so proud that she happy-cries, okay? There's a whole lot of feeling there.

And then... A whole lot of feeling. 'Bout that. Riko is driven and dedicated to the sport in such a way that, often times, it seems pushed to the wayside the fact that she isn't just one of the guys. And she isn't. She's still a high school girl, with high school girl feelings and concerns. This tends to come out the most when Satsuki Momoi comes around in her bathing suit and/or half naked a time or two. Not only is she jealous of the way her team seems to stop in their tracks and gawk at the girl with the giant rack, but she's also much more modest by nature and there is a level of embarrassment felt because of her own, much more slight physique. Sometimes her team, while they are unaware of what it does to her, reacts to her in ways that hurt her feelings - like their visceral reaction to her offer to kiss them for winning, or when they verbally compare her visual appeal versus Satsuki's. See, Satsuki boasts F-cups, and Riko has B-cups, and this is something that initially makes her dislike Satsuki and sass at her without even really knowing the other girl that well. They are rivals, of course, but because of the initial jealousy and kneejerk reaction to Satsuki's physical appearance compared to her own, there isn't nearly as much respect as there is after they get to know each other a little better. It lends to the implication that perhaps Riko isn't as comfortable in her own skin as she could be; she might be loud and intense about basketball, but when it comes to herself, she's quiet and conservative. She doesn't make a spectacle of herself or try to be flashy; she's content to just exist. When Kagami's trainer, Alex, comes from America and kisses Riko right on the lips, Riko absolutely loses her shit - she's just a modest girl, when it comes to her personal space and her own body. She's prideful enough not to bow to being offended verbally or otherwise, though. She's kinda... vengeful, in a sneaky way, when she feels slighted. But she's still just a teenage girl, and she still has feelings that can be bruised, no matter how impervious and in your face she can be as a coach.

Riko is a different person when she's off the court, as well. During off-season, she's much more relaxed. She's one of the guys, but she's a lot less tightly wound and more likely to laugh and be relaxed. She cares deeply about her friends - the closest being Teppei and Hyuuga, the other two founding members of Seirin's basketball club - and they have classes together and eat lunch together and just do normal teenager things. It's even implied that there are some sparks flying between Hyuuga and Riko, though which direction the crush goes is harder to decipher on any given day, and neither one of them has really made a move. When Teppei is injured, before even thinking about basketball and their team and the fate thereof, both Riko and Hyuuga think of Teppei's well-being and worry about their friend's ability to get back into the swing of things with school as he needs to in order to have forward motion. She may be a total badass most of the time she's shown, because most of her screen time involves coaching, but she really is a normal girl doing normal girl things in high school on a day to day basis.

Overall, though, Riko is a dedicated coach and friend, refusing to ever give up on her team and refusing to allow them to give up on themselves. She's a loyal friend and a hard worker, and the best possible person for the position of Coach for Seirin. She draws out a level of devotion and hard work from her team that would likely not even exist without her there to hold it all together and keep them all moving.

Abilities:
While Riko is, for all intents and purposes, a normal human being, she does have a heightened sense of awareness about people's bodies and athletic abilities. The series dramatizes her ability to look at a person and assess their physical capabilities by making it look like she has some awesome cyborg scanning ability through her eyes, but really it's just her own natural born talent to see a body's capacity at first glance. It's jokingly referred to as a scanning ability, because all she has to do in order to know what someone's body can do, handle, etc is look them over once. She spent all of her time growing up around the gym her father worked in, studying athletes, watching how they work and how their bodies function; that has given her this particular talent. She can sense changes in a person's physique and when they've reached their limits this way, also. Riko is also an excellent motivator and coach, though she's never actually had much experience playing basketball herself. She comes up with personalized training schedules very easily and they are efficient and work very well for the team members she assigns them to; she's also excellent at coming up with strategies and pores over data about her team and other teams, sometimes late into the night, to study her team versus their opponents. She really is the glue that holds them together and keeps them whipped into shape, which speaks volumes of her leadership abilities. Riko's an A+ Coach, okay???

Other:
She adds grotesque amounts of vitamins and other game-upping pharmaceuticals to her cooking to try and beef it up for her team. As a result, it makes them sick. Only when someone catches her and makes sure she isn't crushing up a metric ton of pills and powefers into the food is it edible. Riko can also be incredibly violent and tends to um... beat up... on the people that... make her mad... Oops?

SAMPLES;
First Person:
( riko immediately flips the webcam function on and is basically... fuming... ) I can't believe you'd all pull a prank like this when we have another game in two days! I'm sorry about all the supplements!! They're to help you!! And this is just ridiculous! Did you know these papers say all of this is mine?!

( SHE IS GONNA BEAT YOUR ASSES AND MAKE YOU RUN EVERY LAP. EVERY. SINGLE. LAP. EVER. )

When did any of you have the time to do this?! Is my father involved?! I know you can see this - somewhere there's a camera, isn't there?! Like -- like one of those terrible game shows!

( her fuming only gets louder and angrier, her face with it. )

SEIRIN!!

Third Person:
She sits awake in her bedroom, door shut, with just one light on. She's homesick, and she misses her team, and she's angry. None of them are here with her, and she's missing crucial time with their series in the Winter Cup, and how can they do it if she's not there? She wonders; perhaps not so much how they can do it without her, because she knows they can do anything they put their minds to, but how will they do it if she isn't there to coach them when they need it, to offer them guidance and strategies when they need it, to patch them up if they're injured? And what will they do once they've realized she's gone missing? According to some of the people in this place, they won't even notice; it'll be like she never left. But she can't believe that. Riko knows that her team will make note of her absence. She knows they'll be worried. And that makes her angry, too; it's a distraction from the game. A distraction from what they need to focus on.

Frustrated, she throws on some clothes and heads down the stairs to exit her new house. It's not a home, not really. None of the familiar things she loves surround her to make it a home. Riko pauses in the living room to stretch; usually she only does training and running when she's with her team, but poring over paperwork and stats about people that aren't here is just upsetting and she needs to do something besides just sit in her room and be angry, or sleep. She can't just do nothing. She gets her muscles warmed up and pulls on her shoes. I'll get back. I have to. It's her mantra as she gets ready.

Then she heads out the front door and down the sidewalk for a late night run, all by herself. Forward motion is the only option.
